What We Will Borrow/ What We Will Loan
Interlibrary Loan privileges are extended to any patron who is in good standing with the
Jackson County Public Library. Materials that may be borrowed include: Books,Audios, Videos, & Magazine Articles.

Books

Cost: Patron must pay return postage.
Please do not ask for a title that is less than six (6) months old.
Most libraries will not loan new titles.
If at all possible, please do not ask for genealogy material. Most libraries will not loan genealogy & local history titles. We can, however, check to see if a title is available in the state and point you toward those libraries that own that title.
After submitting your request, it normally takes one to two (1-2) weeks for the title to arrive at the library. Most libraries allow you to keep the title for at least two (2) weeks to one (1) month. If you are contemplating a research project (term paper, science fair project, etc) please make your ILL requests early to ensure that you receive the titles in time.
Most libraries permit renewals of Interlibrary loans. If you wish to renew your title, please contact the library before the due date of the title. We will do our best to arrange a renewal for you.

What We Will Loan

In-State

We will accept requests via mail, fax, e-mail & phone.
Any book, audio or video that is currently on the shelf is available for in-state loan.
Items with numerous patron reserves will not be loaned. We will, however, place a reserve on the item for in-state libraries if their patron is willing to wait until all local reserves are filled.
Items that are not easily available at other locations (i.e., Jackson County genealogical material)are available for in-state loan.
Magazines are not available for loan. However, we are willing to photocopy and mail a particular article if we have all pertinent information.
The normal loan period is 3 weeks from date of receipt for books and audios, 2 weeks from date of receipt for videos and speciality items.
Patrons cannot make requests themselves, they must go through their local library in order to receive books from our library.

Out of State

Items that are not easily available in other states(i.e, West Virginia and Jackson County genealogical material) are available for out-of-state loan.
Out-of-state requests must be made by mail or fax. E-mail and phone requests are accepted rarely.
The out-of-state loan period is normally 2 weeks from date of receipt. Arrangements can be made to extend this period.
The library reserves the right to specify some titles as In Library Use Only.
The library will not loan newspaper or census microfilm out-of-state.
If an item is not available at the time of the request, we will hold the request until the item is available and mail it at that time.
If an item is rare and/or we only have one copy we will not loan out-of-state. If that is the case, we will notify the library as soon as possible that the request has been denied.
All requests for out-of-state loans must come from a library, genealogical society, or historical society. Individuals cannot request on their own.
